Herman Hill

 Herman Alexander Hill (1945-1970) born October 12, 1945, was the 10th of 13 children born to Charlie Sr. and Milobelia Hill, Tuskegee, Al. The Hill family moved to Englishtown, NJ 1948 and soon after moved to Farmingdale, N.J. Herman attended Ardena elementary school and was a star athlete at Southard Freehold High School, which is now named Howell School Hill. Excelling in athletics such as baseball, football, and swimming, upon graduation 1969. Hill was 23 years old when he broke into the big leagues on September 2, 1969, with the Minnesota Twins. Herman's last game was played on October 1, 1970. Herman became missing December 14, 1979, was body washed ashore December 19, 1970. His body was identified and sent to New Jersey December 22, 1970 and his body was laid to rest December 26, 1970 in Maplewood cemetery in Freehold, NJ. Herman played two seasons with the Twins before being shot, body placed in Ocean, and ultimate death in Valencia, Carabobo, Venezuela. Herman Hill was my mother's brother. Rest in peace Uncle Herman.

  1. Thanks for sharing this story. Although I have lived in Ocean County for years, I have never heard about Herman Alexander Hill. Did they ever discover any more information about his death?

  2. Audrey, I played baseball with Herman, best ballplayer that I ever saw. He would have done really well. He was also a great person as well. Ended much too soon, R.I.P. Herman
